Question

We found literally HUNDREDS of caterpillars in and around our pool last night.  

Can you tell us what kind of caterpillar these are?  They are very small.  They are mostly green in color.  Upon close examination, you can see some "hairs."

We are very curious as to what they are and why so many appeared all of a sudden.  We live about 30 miles west of Houston.

What you have are not caterpillars. They are called Sawflies. They come and go in seasons. The adults lay eggs on trees, and the larvae (what you have) eat diffrent trees. I believe you have the pine variety.
